About PPSG

PPSG is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community of Parkinson's patients, care-givers and their friends and families since 1981. Originally organized to serve the San Mateo Peninsula and referred to as the Peninsula Parkinson's Support Groups, we have since expanded our service area to serve the communities of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, such that we have found it necessary to change our name to Parkinson's Patients Support Groups, Inc.

PPSG supports the Parkinson's community by sharing information about the latest treatments, events, and legislation regarding Parkinson's disease. We also give recognition to care-givers and volunteers with annual luncheons acknowledging their contributions. We contribute to the success of local support groups by helping to put patients and care-givers in touch with local support groups.

How We Do It

PPSG produces a newsletter for both local and general audiences. The newsletter contain a wide range of articles related to Parkinson's disease. Topics vary from articles about the latest treatments or discoveries, to events that relate to the Parkinson's community, to profiles of interesting individuals, to publishing somebody's favorite recipe or poem.

Our newsletter also publishes information on local Support groups, such as when and where they meet, how to contact them, and sometimes a little blurb about the group's activities. Also for support groups, we maintain a list of available speakers they can invite to their meetings.

We also produce a packet for newly diagnosed patients, containing some basic information and telling patients where to go for further news and information. In addition, we have a packet for caregivers

Our Web Site

This site is intended to further our efforts to provide support for those affected by Parkinson's disease. Our entire newsletter can be accessed through the web site along with the list of local support groups. There is a page on what Parkinson's disease is, that we call About Parkinson's. Here we also discuss how PD is commonly treated and what problems can be anticipated with those treatments.

We provide links to other sources of information and action, including The Parkinson's Institute, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, The National Parkinson's Foundation, The Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Parkinson's Action Network and several others, each with its own special focus, but all with the common goals of improving the lives of those affected by Parkinson's disease and someday finding a cure.

The PPSG, as a non-profit organization, relies on donations from all areas of the Parkinson's Community. We are also an all volunteer organization.
